THE AUTHOR ANALYZES TWO DIFFERENT EXAMPLES OF THE INCREASE IN COSTS DUE TO OPERATING PROCEDURE, FROM PRODUCTION TO DELIVERY TO THE CONSUMER. HE COMPARES THE COST OF THE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF THE CHAIN, WITH THE OVERALL MAINTENANCE OF PRODUCT QUALITY, IN TERMS OF THE COST/QUALITY RATIO. THESE RESULTS ARE IMPORTANT AS THE COSTS AND BENEFITS OF THESE OPERATIONS CAN BE ESTIMATED.
