Summary

Plants cultivated in a greenhouse are treated with a solution of calcium chloride 0.1 M, before harvesting of the tomatoes and storage at 8, 20, or 37 deg C. The tomatoes taken from the treated plants maintain a better firmness and a higher soluble solids content, but also show a greater weight loss and an earlier reddening. Cooling at 8 deg C remains the most effective method of retarding the maturation of tomatoes.
