Summary

A 3,000-LITRE REFRIGERATED FARM TANK FOR MILK WAS TESTED. RATE OF COOLING WITH THE TANK 25-50% FULL WAS SATISFACTORY. THE 58-MIN CLEANING PROGRAMME, CONSISTING OF A PRE-RINSE WITH TAP WATER FOLLOWED BY WASHING AT 323-333 K (50-60 DEG C) WITH AN ALKALINE DETERGENT-DISINFECTANT AND 3 FINAL RINSES, LEFT VIRTUALLY NO MICROORGANISMS ON THE INTERNAL SURFACES OF THE TANK. AVERAGE BACTERIAL COUNT IN MILK SAMPLES TAKEN DURING TANKER COLLECTION WAS ONLY 35,550/MILLILITRE. (DAIRY SCI. ABSTR., GB., 47, N 1, 1985/01, 37, 334.
