Effect of temperature on a modified atmosphere packaging system for apples.

Summary

A problem inherent in modified atmosphere packaging systems for fruit is the risk of anaerobic package atmospheres developing at temperatures above the design optimum. To characterise the response of an apple carton modified atmosphere packaging system to changing ambient conditions, changes in package atmosphere composition were measured for temperature/time regimes simulating conditions likely to be experienced by fruit during packaging, storage and distribution. Results are given.
