Summary

TO BE MARKETED EFFICIENTLY, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT DECIDUOUS FRUIT HAVE SUFFICIENT STORAGE LIFE PLUS A FAIRLY LONG SHELF LIFE. GENERALLY, CULTIVARS WITHIN A SPECIFIC FRUIT KIND DIFFER IN KEEPING QUALITY. UNFORTUNATELY CULTIVARS WITH A DELICATE TEXTURE AND FLAVOUR ARE OFTEN LACKING IN KEEPING QUALITY. BON CHRETIEN PEARS WHICH RIPEN TOO QUICKLY, YELLOWING OF GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLES, INTERNAL BREAKDOWN IN PLUMS AND WOOLLINESS IN NECTARINES ARE TYPICAL PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED IN EXPORT FRUIT THAT HAS BEEN STORED FOR A LONG TIME.
