Summary

The effectiveness of captan, as Captan 50 WP and Captan 80 WG (Tomen Agro Inc., USA), in the control of bull's eye rot of apples was evaluated during three storage seasons. Captan, at a concentration of 1.5 kg (a.i.)/ha, was applied twice, 4 and 2 weeks before harvest, and the percentage of apples affected by Pezicula spp. was evaluated after 5-6 months of storage in a normal atmosphere at 2-3 °C. The tested fungicide provided a very good control of bull's eye rot. However, following the use of Captan 50 WP (wettable powder) small white spots were visible on the skin both after harvest and storage of apples. Captan 80 WG (wettable granules) did not leave spots.
