Summary

NUMEROUS MOULDS WERE ISOLATED FROM WOODEN PACKAGES USED FOR THE STORAGE OF ROOTS. SCLEROTINIA SCLEROTIORUM, RHIZOCTOMA CAROTAE, RHIZOPUS NIGRICANS AND BOTRYTIS CINEREA ARE THE MOST FREQUENTLY ENCOUNTERED (40%). S. SCLEROTIORUM AND B. CINEREA ARE THE MOST SENSITIVE TO THE EFFECT OF FUNGICIDES. THE MOST RESISTANT ARE RH. NIGRICANS AND RH. CAROTAE. THE USE OF DITHANE M 45 (0.1%), SUMILEX (0.1%), DEROSAL (0.1%) AND ROVRAL (0.2%) REDUCED THE PERCENTAGE OF ROTTEN ROOTS, AFTER ABOUT 150 DAY STORAGE, COMPARED TO THE CONTROL.
