Energy balance of ice pond refrigeration system in practical use.

Author(s) : KOWATA H., SATO Y., HOSHIBA S.

Summary

A commercial-scale ice pond refrigeration system was operated for two years to study its energy balance. Throughout the experiments the daily electric power consumption was measured. Ice was manufactured in a 1200 m3 pond in winter and the COP of the ice-making subsystem was calculated by measuring the total cool heat energy stored in the ice. In the warm season the inside temperature of the 950 m3 warehouse storing potatoes was kept at 2 deg C by heat exchange between air and ice-cooled water.
