Energy-saving effect of grading treatment for fan coil unit and dedicated outdoor air system.

Number: 0288

Author(s) : WANG W., LIANG C., LI X.

Summary

Fan coil units (FCU) and dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) uses low-temperature chilled water in summer and high-temperature hot water in winter to treat both indoor circulating air and outdoor fresh air, which results in the low energy efficiency of the air conditioning system. To reduce the grade of chilled/hot water, this study proposes the grading treatment system for FCU and DOAS in which the air treatment in FCU and DOAS is divided into two and three stages, respectively. The results show that compared with those of the traditional system, the total electric powers of the proposed system are reduced by 13.9% and 9.3% under two typical operating conditions, the total annual energy consumption of the proposed system is reduced by 7.7%, the annual average system coefficient of performance (SCOP) of the proposed system is increased by 8.4%, and the payback period is 3.79 years.
