Summary

THIS AVERAGE CONSUMPTION IS ESTIMATED ON THE BASIS OF 1.5 MILLIARD LITRE ICE CREAM CONSUMED BY 271 MILLION INHABITANTS OF THE EEC. A TABLE COMPARES INDUSTRIAL ICE CREAM MANUFACTURE IN THOUSANDS OF LITRES SINCE 1979 FOR THE COMMUNITY COUNTRIES (INCLUDING GREECE SINCE 1982) WITH ESTIMATIONS FOR 1983. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CONSUMPTION PER CAPITA (8.1 LITRES) IS THAT OF DENMARK, FOLLOWED BY IRELAND AND THE NETHERLANDS. THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY PRODUCES NEARLY ONE THIRD OF OVERALL ICE CREAM IN THE EEC. EEC REGULATIONS, MAINLY SPECIFYING THE FAT CONTENT OF ICE CREAM, ITS SPECIFIC WEIGHT, VEGETABLE MATTER CONTENT, ADDITIVES, ETC, ARE DESIRABLE. G.G.
