Summary

A REPORT ON FROZEN-FOOD CONSUMPTION LEVELS IN WESTERN EUROPE, WHICH THE AUTHOR SAYS ARE APPROACHING THOSE OF THE UNITED STATES. THE AUTHOR ATTRIBUTES THIS TREND TO: 1) A LABOR SHORTAGE IN THE RESTAURANT-CANTINE SECTOR (WHICH IN MANY COUNTRIES ACCOUNTS FOR OVER HALF OF ALL CONSUMPTION) ; AND 2) MORE WORKING WIVES AND MORE MICROWAVE OVENS AND FREZR. TABULAR STATISTICS ARE GIVEN ON THIS SECOND REASON, AS WELL AS ON CONSUMPTION OF FROZEN FOOD AND ICE CREAM. ONE SURPRISING FACT IS THAT ICE-CREAM CONSUMPTION IS MUCH HIGHERINHN EUROPE THAN IN SOUTHERN EUROPE. M. C.
