Evaluation of hydrocarbon refrigerants in single evaporator domestic refrigerator-freezers.

Summary

The paper presents the simulation and experimental performance evaluation of a mixture of propane and isobutane (50% propane and 50% isobutane by mass) in single evaporator domestic refrigerator-freezers. The refrigerator-freezer hardware was kept the same except for the increase in length of capillary to achieve the optimum performance. Extensive tests have been conducted to evaluate the performance of such modified refrigerator. The amount of refrigerant to be charged has also been determined for the best performance of 165 litre capacity single evaporator domestic refrigerator-freezer. The results of the study are reported in the paper.
