Summary
The refrigerant mixtures R404A, R407C, R410A and R507 and the pure fluids R134a, ammonia, propane and propene the are main refrigerants recommended for replacing R22. The paper shows the results of heat transfer calculations for these refrigerants over a wide application range for flooded and direct expansion evaporation. To determine the best substitute for R22, the heat transfer areas are compared and a ranking for both types of evaporators is presented.
