Evaporative characteristics of refrigerant R410A in air-conditioner systems.

Summary
As a promising candidate to replace refrigerant R22, the evaporative characteristics of the near-azeotropic refrigerant R410A are investigated in the evaporator of a vapour compression system. In the experiments, the heat transfer coefficient with different geometry of micro-fin tubes was measured and compared with that of R22 for the same set-up. The overall heat transfer coefficient of the evaporator was evaluated against different flow rate of the refrigerant and air. The results show that the refrigerant R410A is able to achieve similar evaporative heat transfer as R22 if the design of the evaporator is optimized. The present work provides useful information toward practical application of the newly developed refrigerant R410A.
