Summary

THE SUDDEN PRESSURE VARIATIONS IN COLD ROOMS -WHOSE VARIOUS CAUSES ARE REVIEWED -CAN ENTAIL WELL KNOWN ACCIDENT RISKS. THE USUAL RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERN THE USE OF EQUALIZING VALVES AND CERTAIN OPERATION PRECAUTIONS WHICH ARE ENUMERATED. THE OPERATION OF NEW OR RECOMMISSIONED COLD ROOMS REQUIRESPECIAL PRECAUTIONS WHICH ARE DESCRIBED. THE SAME APPLIES TO THE DEFROSTING OF EVAPORATORS AND THEIR RETURN TO OPERATION AS WELL AS FOR THE STARTING OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. ALL THESE PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN EMPIRICALLY DEVELOPED AND A THEORETICAL STUDY OF THESE PHENOMENA WOULD BE APPROPRIATE. J.L.
