Exergy auditing of a cascade natural gas liquefaction plant.

Number: pap. ID: 289

Author(s) : TERRAH S. M., OUADHA A.

Summary

This paper aims to perform an exergy auditing of a cascade liquefaction plant. Exergy auditing permits to quantify exergy losses in each component of the plant using the first and second laws of thermodynamic. The thermodynamic properties of the refrigerants (propane, ethylene and methane) used in each loop of the cascade system are calculated using a set of reliable equations of state. The analysis revealed that 50% of exergy is wasted in the different heat exchangers. Significant losses were found to occur in the compressors. Although the exergy loss in the throttling valves is relatively small compared to that in the heat exchangers.
