Summary

Heat transfer surface coefficients and pressure drop values were experimentally determined during boiling of R12 and R22 inside a 4.5-meter straight tube. The tube operates as the inner element of a double-pipe heat exchanger, where water is flowing inside the outer annular section. The system was calibrated as to the wate-tube heat transfer coefficient, which was found to comply with the traditional Dittus-Boulter correlation if the original 0.023 coefficient is replaced by 0.028. Some experimental results are reported as functions of the specific mass flow rate of R12 and R22, for three copper tubes, of which one is smooth and two are microfinned.
