Summary

A DIRECT TRANSFER TYPE, TUBE-IN-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER PACKED WITH COPPER WIRE MESHES IN THE INNER TUBE AS WELL AS IN THE ANNULUS WAS DESIGNED AND FABRICATED FOR HIGH EFFECTIVENESS NEEDED FOR THE CRYOGENIC APPLICATIONS. EFFECTIVENESS OF HEAT EXCHANGER AND OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS WERE OBTAINED. FROM THESE DATA INDIVIDUAL VALUES OF HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS WERE OBTAINED FOR BOTH WARM AND COLD STREAMS. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ARE ALSO COMPARED WITH THOSE USING EMPIRICAL CORRELATIONS.
