Experimental study on condensation heat transfer of fluorocarbon refrigerants outside horizontal tubes.

Number: pap. ID: 154

Author(s) : INOUE N., KIRIYAMA T., TAKAHASHI H.

Summary

In this study, the authors verify the basic condensation heat-transfer characteristics, condensation liquid flow pattern, heat-transfer enhancement effects and other related factors experimentally for smooth, low-finned tubes and for externally microscopic-grooved tubes using two fluorocarbon refrigerants: R123, which has a small ozone depletion potential (ODP); and R245fa, which has a zero ODP and a global-warming potential smaller than that of R134a. Both refrigerants are currently used in shell-and-tube condensers of turborefrigerators. The authors also observe the flow patterns of the condensate film on each tube type under various experimental conditions.
