Summary

To compare with R134a, the most frequently used refrigerant, an experimental study on DME was conducted. The results show that the refrigeration capacity and the COP of DME are about 10-15% lower and 3-9% lower respectively than those of R134a at different evaporating temperatures. Both frequently used mineral oils and ether oils can be used in DME refrigeration systems. This discharge temperature of DME systems in which ester oil is used is slightly higher than that of systems in which mineral oil is used. DME can be used directly to replace R134a in R134a refrigeration systems.
