Falling film absorption with solutions of a hydroxide mixture.

Summary

Due to their thermophysical properties aqueous solutions of a hydroxide mixture consisting of 1 part soda and 1 part KOH are favorable as absorbent for water vapour in absorption heat pump systems in which a large temperature lift between evaporator and absorber is aimed at. Designing heat pumps requires heat transfer coefficients, which are not available for the hydroxide mixture. An apparatus was constructed to measure the effective heat transfer coefficients in a falling film absorber with horizontal tubes using the hydroxide solution as absorbent. The results of the experiments are presented and the reasons for the observed behaviour are discussed.
