Summary

The filth-test in frozen mushrooms was performed in seven commercial products, four of them sold with packaging and three whithout. The adopted method was based on the official method of AOAC, with a modification consisting in a reduction of the stain concentration of the sodium hypocloride. The detected impurities, apart from some fibres in a sample, consisted mainly in arthropods such as acari, whole insects or insect fragments. Dipteran larvae including mycetophilids, phorids and muscids were more frequently found. As a rule it was emphasized that according to the Italian law (L. 283-1962), none of the analysed products should have been commercialised.
