Summary

HEAT PUMP DRIERS FOR KLIPFISH HAVE NO SERIOUS COMPETITOR, AND 20-30 HAVE BEEN DELIVERED IN NORWAY SO FAR. SOME DRIERS HAVE BEEN IN OPERATION FOR 2-3 YEARS AND THE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN VERY SATISFACTORY. ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS FOUND TO BE 0.125 KWH PER KG DRY FISH, 4 TO 7 TIMES LESS THAN THE VALUES FOUND IN ELECTRICALLY OR OIL HEATED DRIERS. THE RUNNING OF THE PLANT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE AND SIZE OF FISH, AND ON WHETHER THE FISH IS ROUND OR SPLIT. IN SOME PLANTS BATCH-DRYING IS USED, WITH INITIAL AIR TEMPERATURE OF 278-283 K (5-10 DEG C) AND END TEMPERATURES OF 293-303 K (20-30 DEG C). OTHER PLANTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY FED, AND OPERATE WITH AN INLET AIR TEMPERATURE OF 293 K.
