Summary

FREEZE CONCENTRATION OF SINGLE STRENGTH APPLE JUICE, RESULTING IN LARGE CYLINDRICAL ICE WITH LESS THAN 2% OCCLUDED SOLIDS IN ITS MELT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. A ROTATIONAL FREEZE CONCENTRATOR WHICH HAS A CRYSTALLIZER CAPABLE OF GROWING ICE UNIDIRECTIONALLY WAS USED. THE SYSTEM DOES NOT REQUIRE WASHING OF ICE CRYSTALS. THIS MAY LOWER FREEZE CONCENTRATION OPERATING COSTS. AT THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS, A CONCENTRATED JUICE AND A DILUTED DRINK COULD BE OBTAINED CONCURRENTLY. THIS DILUTED DRINK COULD EITHER BE MARKETED AS AN ADE OR TAKEN THROUGH ADDITIONAL FREEZE CONCENTRATION STEPS TO RECOVER POTABLE WATER.
