FREEZE FILTRATION: DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF A METHOD FOR SAMPLING THE LIQUID PHASE OF FROZEN SOLUTIONS.
Author(s) : BAYER D., KAROW A. M.
Type of article: Article
Summary
A SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE METHOD WAS DEVELOPED FOR LABORATORY SAMPLING THE REMAINING LIQUID BETWEEN ICE CRYSTALS AND OTHER SOLIDS FOR SUBSEQUENT CHEMICAL ANALYSIS IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF ICE FORMATION AND OTHERPHYSICAL-CHEMICAL EFFECTS OF FREEZING. THIS METHOD, CALLED FREEZE FILTRATION, USES SUBATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE TO ASPIRATE LIQUID PHASE FROM A COOLED SAMPLE HOLDER INTO A COLLECTION VIAL.
