Summary

THE SURVIVAL OF 35.7% EMBRYOS WAS OBSERVED AFTER EQUILIBRATION IN MEDIUM PB1 CONTAINING 3.0 M METHANOL, SLOW COOLED (0.5 K/MIN) TO 238 K (-35 DEG C) AND NEXT RAPIDLY WARMED (ABOUT 800 K/MIN). AFTER USING THIS SAME COOLING PROCEDURE AND DEEP FREEZING TO 77 K (-196 DEG C), THE SURVIVAL WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY LOWER (30.4%). THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO FREEZE SHEEP EMBRYOS IN THE PRESENCE OF 3.0 M METHANOL.
