Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES SOME ATTEMPTS CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO EXAMINE FORMULAE CONCERNING FREEZING RATE SET UP BY PLANK. AN INFINITE CYLINDER FILLED WITH A COLOURED CARRAGEENAN GEL WAS USED AS A MODEL. IN THE FROZEN STATE THE MODEL ONLY SLIGHTLY CONFIRMS THE VARIATIONS IN LINEAR FREEZING RATE WHEREAS A CROSS SECTION IN THAWED CONDITION CLEARLY SHOWS A FINE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE IN THE MIDDLE AND AT THE SURFACE WITH A COARSELY CRYSTALLIZED LAYER IN BETWEEN.
