Fresh products, logistics and energy labelling: who cares for the conditioning quality?
Versproducten en logistiek/energielabelling. Wie zorgt voor de kwaliteit van de conditionering?

Summary
Fresh and chilled commodities, by far the major part refrigerated transport, need continuous air circulation and refrigeration power control, to control product temperatures in a small range. Continuous modulating control increases power consumption above the synchronous on-off control of refrigeration power and air circulation. Without evaluation of the conditioning quality in terms of air temperature range, energy labelling of reefer units misleads to a choice of units with low power consumption but large temperature range (= low conditioning quality). The organised perishable transport industry should take the necessary steps to have energy efficiency of refrigerated transport equipment at part-load conditions and conditioning quality accepted as a meaningful criterion.
