Giving new life to old ammonia refrigeration plants.

Number: pap. n. 34

Author(s) : ODEY M.

Summary

The author will describe several examples of Pump Recirculated Ammonia Refrigeration Plants which were reconfigured or upgraded for reuse. These four examples will include two meat processing plants which, in one case was converted from direct refrigerant ammonia to secondary refrigerant glycol, and in another was a new installation following the same model. Then, two further examples of direct refrigerant ammonia converted to secondary refrigerant glycol with a change in use from air stored fruit to Controlled Atmosphere Storage fruit. Among the issues which arose, was obtaining regulatory compliance for piping systems which were installed 30 to 40 years ago.
