Summary
After an overview of the various heat pump principles, the extensive range of applications is briefly reviewed. Basic technological principles of vapour compression and absorption cycles are then explained. Based on the "International Heat Pump Status and Policy Review" and on the IIR's experience, the latest technological advancements and the major development trends are presented. Heat pump development must also meet the challenge of the CFC and HCFC phase-out. The present refrigerants used are reviewed, and the outlook of refrigerants that may be used in heat pumps is given.
