Hydrocarbon compressors for light commercial refrigeration.
Author(s) : VALERO P., ZGLICZYNSKI M.
Summary
R290 appears to be the best choice for R404A and R407C replacement, as far as the "green properties" are considered. Strong advantages of propane are the thermodynamic performance, the common availability, the low cost, the compatibility with mineral and alkylbenzene oils and with all the materials used in the compressor and in the refrigeration system. On the other hand, safety issues related to flammability can represent an obstacle for hydrocarbon diffusion in larger applications and on some markets. Theoretical performances of the different refrigerants has been analysed in order to compare characteristics like efficiency, cooling capacity, discharge temperature and pressure difference, considering as reference R404A in LBP, and R407C in HBP working conditions. The performances of the compressors developed have been compared to confirm theoretical analysis. Finally, results on application, in terms of energy consumption, pull down and stabilization, are shown.
