Summary

ROTTING FRUIT AT WHOLESALE AND RETAIL LEVEL CAN BE PREVENTED BY ATTENTION TO CLEANING OF COLD STORES, PACKHOUSES, FRUIT CONTAINERS AND EQUIPMENT. THE FORMER SHOULD BE CLEANED AS SOON AS EMPTIED TO LIMIT FUNGAL SPORES USING SODIUM OR CALCIUM HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTIONS. DOORS SHOULD BE LEFT OPEN AND FANS OPERATED FOR 30 MINUTES EVERY SECOND DAY. BULK CONTAINERS NEED NOT BE DISINFECTED EVERY YEAR BUT IF NECESSARY THE SAME HYPOCHLORITES CAN BE USED AFTER THOROUGH WASHING. WATER FOR HYDROCOOLING SHOULD BE REPLACED REGULARLY OR CHLORINATED.
