Summary

ONE OF THE REASONS OF THIS RESEARCH IS THAT SOME CASES OF CHOLERA HAD BEEN RECORDED IN SPAIN. THE ICE CUBES USED IN HOTELS, RESTAURANTS AND BARS COULD BE A TRANSMISSION MEDIUM FOR VIBRIO COLERAE. AS THOSE OF MANY OTHER COUNTRIES THE SPANISH LEGISLATION SPECIFIES THAT SUCH ICE CUBES MUST BE MADE FROM DRINKING WATER AND THAT WATER PRODUCED BY THEIR FUSION MUST CORRESPOND TO THE SAME SANITARY CONDITIONS. THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENT ARE: 1. THE NUMBER OF ICE CUBES WAS HIGH, BUT IT DECREASED FROM 1977 (83.5%) TO 1979 (61.2%). 2. THE A. SUGGESTS A REVISION OF THE SPANISH FOOD CODE, IN ORDER TO FIX MAXIMUM LIMITS FOR THE AMMONIA, NITRITES AND PHOSPHATES CONTENT OF DRINKING WATER AND ICE CUBES MADE OUT OF IT. J.G.
