Improve seawater cooling with titanium finned tubes.

Summary
For many and various plants using shell and tube heat exchangers seawater can provide economical cooling. In the past corrosive effects on available metals have limited its use. Titanium is now available at a price similar to stainless steel and is immune to seawater corrosion. The metal forms a hard oxide film which is self replacing after damage and also resists attack by marine microbes. High strength allows thinner tube walls and tubes can be produced with integral external finning. Examples are given showing the advantages of such tubing in shell and tube units. D.W.H.
