Improving energy efficiency within the food cold chain.
Number: pap. ID: 885
Author(s) : JAMES S. J., JAMES C.
Summary
In June 2006, a UK Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) funded project to “identify, develop and stimulate the development and application of more energy efficient refrigeration technologies and business practices for use throughout the food chain whilst not compromising food safety and quality” started. The project was a collaboration between 4 top University research groups (University of Bristol (Grimsby Institute), Brunel University, London South Bank University and Sunderland University), an industrial steering group and hundreds of stakeholders from the food and refrigeration industries. (During the final stages of the project the coordinator FRPERC moved from the University of Bristol to the Grimsby Institute (GIFHE). This paper summarises some of the work already reported (James et al., 2009) and subsequent findings of this project.
