In situ, experimental study of three adsorptive ice makers.

Etude expérimentale de trois machines à glace solaires à adsorption.

Summary

A standard adsorptive solar-powered ice maker and two variants, using the activated carbon-methanol pair and tested in southern Morocco, are described. Performances of these machines are analyzed. A statistical correlation between heat extraction, incident solar energy and ambient temperature (diurnal and nocturnal) is established. Dependence of heat extraction on meteorological parameters is studied. In Agadir, performances are good: each unit produces more than 4 kg of ice per day and per m2 of collector during 60% of the year. The ice temperature lies between -15 and -5 deg C. Heat extraction largely depends on the nocturnal ambient temperature. With a nocturnal cooling system, daily ice production could be increased by more than 20%.
