Summary

Six methods were tested for isolating Yersinia species in 15 samples of fish and shellfish, 11 samples of meat products and 12 samples of pork-based products. The effectiveness of an enrichment method was assessed. The main strains isolated belonged to the species Y. intermedia, Y. pestis, Y. enterocolitica and Y. pseudotuberculosis. No isolate of Y. enterocolitica was found to contain virulence plasmid.
