Summary

VERY POSITIVE RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED BY PACKAGING ITALIAN LEMONS WITH HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE 15 MICRONS D-950. IN FACT, THANKS TO THE OUTSTANDING REDUCTION IN FRUIT WEIGHT LOSS OBTAINED WITH THE FILM, THE PACKED SAMPLES KEPT AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SHOWED A SHELF LIFE SIMILAR TO THE REFRIGERATED UNPACKED ONES (75-90 DAYS). THE PACKED FRUIT STORED IN THE COLD ROOM MAINTAINED A COMMERCIALLY GOOD QUALITY FOR 120 DAYS. UNREFRIGERATED, UNPACKED LEMONS BECOME UNSALEABLE EVEN BEFORE 30 DAYS OF STORAGE.
