Summary
An ad-hoc committee of the ARI in the USA has met to consider guidelines covering the re-use and re-sale of recovered and reclaimed CFC refrigerants. Agreement was reached to include points concerning purity levels, the correctness of a decision to recover or directly recycle a refrigerant, handling and storage, and a compliance procedure. It was suggested that purity levels for a new sale of a recovered refrigerant should be the same as for a reclaimed refrigerant. Sale back to the same customer of a recycled refrigerant might be to lower purity levels. The details will be decided at draft writing stage. It was pointed out that most systems are not totally clean when new, so virgin pure refrigerant was not necessarily required. The question of liability for later breakdowns was debated. D.W.H.
