Influence of airflow, loading rates and size sorting on the drying of American ginseng.

Summary

The dried root is the valuable part of the plant and quality is determined by visual and taste examination. Research was conducted into Panax pseudoginseng drying. Employing scale models of commercial driers, the role of airflow, loading rates, size sorting and cold storage duration were examined. Results indicate that a wide range of airflow and loading rates give similar drying. The ability to size sort the root results in increased efficiency over unsorted samples.
