Intermittent operation of vapor compression air-conditioning system using low GWP refrigerant.

Summary

In this study, a system simulator is developed to evaluate the static and dynamic properties of various refrigerants, including non-zeotropic refrigerant mixtures, for selecting next-generation refrigerants. All elements, including the heat exchanger, are modeled based on the finite volume method. This makes it a highly versatile model that also supports the reverse flow of fluid. Thus, a wide range of dynamic analyses, including compressor start/stop, is possible. In addition, the mathematical model considers transient and local compositional changes of the non-zeotropic refrigerant mixture and can reproduce their responses. The model developed in this study was used to simulate system performance for a typical non-zeotropic mixed refrigerant, including R454C (which is a mixture of R32 and R1234yf), when the cycle is operated intermittently.
