Summary

CRYOPROTECTANTS IN A FINAL 10% CONCENTRATION USED IN SALT SOLUTIONS (VIZ 0. 15 M SODIUM CHLORIDE, KREBS-RINGER BUFFER, HANK'S SOLUTION, ALBUMIN MEDIUM OR MEDIUM-199) FAVOUR THE PRESERVATION OF ISOLATED HEPATOCYTES. THIS HAS BEEN PROVEN BY DECREASING THE LIBERATION OF POTASSIUM IONS AND ENZYME PROTEINS INTO THE FREEZING MEDIUM. SOLUTIONS OF 10% DMSO WERE FOUND TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE IN THE PROTECTION OF THE CELLS FROM FREEZING INJURY AS COMPARED WITH 10% PEG-400.
