Type of monograph: Booklet

Summary

This document was produced by the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) of WHO's Vaccines, Immunization and Biologicals Department (see also this issue of the Bulletin, reference 2001-1669). Of the vaccines used in the EPI, the oral polio vaccine is that which is the most heat-sensitive. During transport and storage, this vaccine must be handled in compliance with good cold-chain practice. However, it is now possible to check whether a vaccine has been overexposed to heat using a vaccine vial monitor. Extract from the table of contents: the "traditional" cold chain for immunization campaigns; the vaccine vial monitor; the fast chain; when is a flexible cold chain required? planning of a flexible cold chain; advice. This document is available on the following Web site: www.who.int/vaccines-documents.
