Summary

ALTERATIONS IN THE MICROBIAL POPULATION AND THEIR BIOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN UNIRRADIATED AND GAMMA-IRRADIATED (100 KRAD) POMFRET WERE INVESTIGATED. WHILE PSEUDOMONAS FORMED THE PREDOMINANT (48%) FLORA OF UNIRRADIATED POMFRET, 58% OF THE ISOLATES IN IRRADIATED POMFRET BELONGED TO ACHROMOBACTER SPECIES. INCIDENCE OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS IN POMFRET STORED AT 281-283 OR 273-275 K (8-10 OR 0-2 DEG C) WAS RESTRICTED TO LESS THAN 12%.
