THE COMPUTER PACKAGE BERTEM WAS DEVELOPED TO CALCULATE THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN SOLIDS OF ANY GEOMETRY WITH VARIABLE PROPERTIES. THE PACKAGE IS BASED ON THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PACKAGE ARE DESCRIBED AND VARIOUS APPLICATION EXAMPLES ARE PROVIDED. THE USE OF THE PACKAGE BERTEM FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN PORK CARCASES, IS DETAILED.
