Modelling the melting behaviour of ice crystal slurries for district cooling.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The paper explains the numerical model developed to calculate the heat transfer in a melting ice crystal slurry in a circular pipe by enthalpy methods. The slurry pipe flow is generalised to be formed from a salt solution of variable initial salt concentration and was assumed to have a range of initial ice concentrations of up to 25% and a known velocity profile. Heat flux results show increased values over single-phase heat transfer.
