Multicomponent refrigerants: a giant success for an old idea.

Author(s) : BRENDENG E.

Summary

Hydrocarbons are ideal components for the make-up of refrigerant in plants where cooling takes place over a wide temperature range, as in natural gas liquefaction. These plants are developed to a high degree of perfection, and base-load LNG plants are the largest refrigeration plants in the world, with a refrigeration capacity of up to 60 megawatts in a single dry expansion evaporator. Altogether 49 trains in 10 factories are erected in the world so far, with a total refrigeration capacity of about 1800 megawatts.
