Summary
This paper presents the state of the art, an overview of the recent development with a list of issues for main natural refrigerants. In addition, it discusses ways to improve performance and addresses issues arising from transitioning systems with natural refrigerants from alternative to mainstream option. The focus is on CO2 and ammonia to the greatest extent, while hydrocarbons are mentioned briefly.
