AN OXYGEN ABSORBING SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED WHICH CAN REDUCE O2 LEVELS TO LESS THAN 0.01% IN PACKAGES. WHEN USED WITH A SUITABLE BARRIER FILM, AN INEXPENSIVE MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE IS PRODUCED. THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN USED IN DAIRY PRODUCTS SUCH AS PROCESSED CHEESE, QUICHE, BUTTER AND CHEESE SPREADS, TO PREVENT MOULD GROWTH AND PRODUCT DETERIORATION. G.R.S.
