Numerical analysis of a plate fin and tube evaporator using the natural refrigerant CO2.
Author(s) : SHILLIDAY J. A., TASSOU S. A.
Summary
This paper presents simulation results of plate finned-tube evaporator coils for CO2 commercial refrigeration. The numerical model which is based on the distributed modelling approach calculates the length of the evaporator tube required for complete evaporation of the refrigerant. The objective was to determine the impact of a number of coil design parameters such as the tube diameter and number of parallel circuits on the size of evaporator area required for complete evaporation of the refrigerant, refrigerant side pressure drop and exit velocity.
